0:14 - 0:16My Name is Paul Albano, I'm with Canon USA
-
0:19 - 0:22At Canon we are driven by the corporate
philosofy of "kyousei" -
0:22 - 0:24which means living and working together
for the common good. -
0:24 - 0:26That philosophy drives all of our activities
at Canon -
0:26 - 0:27from the way in which we design our products
-
0:27 - 0:29to our relationships with our customers
and communities in which we operate in -
0:29 - 0:31as well as our management structure.
-
0:31 - 0:36At Canon we strive to design technology
that's accessible to the widest range of users -
0:36 - 0:38regardless of their abilities.
-
0:38 - 0:43In our office equipment environment,
we strive to design technology and solutions -
0:43 - 0:47that will allow people to do their work
with great ease of use and great efficiency -
0:47 - 0:51so that technology can be enjoyed and used
by people of all abilities. -
0:51 - 0:57Our founder, Dr. Mitarai, shortly after
we introduced our first camera -
0:57 - 0:59we introduced the world's first
indirect X-ray camera -
0:59 - 1:03which is used to help diagnose
certain diseases such as tuberculosis -
1:03 - 1:08In the 1970's we were actually a distributor
of certain accessibility products -
1:08 - 1:11We actually manufactured a product called
"Cannon Communicator" -
1:11 - 1:14and we were a distributor of a product called
the "Optacon". -
1:14 - 1:18Today we're designing multifunctional
office equipment -
1:18 - 1:23that will allow people to perform their
daily work much more easily and efficiently -
1:23 - 1:25and by removing many of the common
barriers that they may experience -
1:25 - 1:27from office products.
-
1:27 - 1:31For example, UI screens, which do not have
any tactile markings or indications -
1:31 - 1:34are able to now provide access
to the user interface using things such as -
1:34 - 1:37voice guidance or voice navigation.
-
1:37 - 1:41We're able to apply things such as
red label kits to our products -
1:41 - 1:46which help folks with low vision to
identify key components of the system. -
1:46 - 1:50Most of our machines also can work
or integrate with screen readers -
1:50 - 1:53and screen magnification software
so many of many device drivers -
1:53 - 1:58and utilities can be accessed from a
remote location, from a desktop. -
1:58 - 2:02So these are just some examples
of how we strive to make -
2:02 - 2:05our technology accessible for people in an
office setting, -
2:05 - 2:09allow people to do their work
much more independently.
