1:30 - 1:33a lot of people know it's impossible.

1:37 - 1:40But the impossible is only impossible until
somebody makes it possible. -

2:32 - 2:33It is a head of state,

2:33 - 2:36but at the same time, it's a head of the church.

2:37 - 2:39"The Francis Effect" is an art piece
-
2:39 - 2:45that wants to talk about the Catholic church,
-
2:45 - 2:49specifically the Vatican as a political entity.

2:50 - 2:53The Vatican is a recognized state
-
2:53 - 2:55that was conceived out of an idea--
-
2:55 - 2:58in this case, a religious idea.
-
2:58 - 3:02So, what if we have all the places in the
world -
3:02 - 3:05in which people gathered together out of an
idea -
3:05 - 3:09and not out of a piece of land that belonged
to your ancestors. -
3:10 - 3:12That's the Pangea.

3:31 - 3:37and he made a pretty emotional speech there.

3:38 - 3:42The table had the shape of a boat,

3:42 - 3:45so it was like an art piece, you know?

3:45 - 3:47It was like an installation.

3:47 - 3:49The Pope has been very outspoken

3:49 - 3:53about treating immigrants differently.

3:53 - 3:55And he came up with the globalization of indifference,

3:56 - 3:59as a concept, that I really liked.

3:59 - 4:01I feel, like many other people,

4:01 - 4:06that this is a problem that has to be solved
on a global scale, -
4:06 - 4:08with international institutions.

4:09 - 4:12Immigrants do not need charity; they need
papers. -
4:12 - 4:17Let's take the Pope's words and ask him to
walk the... -

4:52 - 4:54But I think it's more satisfying because

4:59 - 5:00is more fulfilling for me

5:00 - 5:04than just, like, a little pat on the shoulder.

5:05 - 5:09But the signature is kind of the theatrics
that you need -
5:09 - 5:12for people who don't believe in art--

5:12 - 5:14people who don't believe in the power of ideas.

5:15 - 5:20At the same, it is a way to mobilize people
-
5:20 - 5:23to think the impossible, you know?

5:23 - 5:26Like, what if somebody actually decides to
say, -
5:26 - 5:29"Yes, I'll give all the immigrants in the
world," -
5:29 - 5:32"who are undocumented or refugees,"

5:32 - 5:34"their papers."

5:34 - 5:40So they can be seen other than illegal or
a negative way. -
5:40 - 5:45Even if they don't sign, that they think about
it, you know? -
5:45 - 5:48And then put the little seed in their head.

5:48 - 5:49That's for me what art is.
